Last week due to the events as they played out I made a post on a FB group that if anyone needed a friend or someone to talk to they can message or add me. Since we are being supportive of each other in these unknown times it felt like the right thing to do - both for me and others who may need someone. I got some messages and friend requests but then on Sunday mid-morning when I logged on I got a message from a lady with the same last name as mine. She told me she was from nearby and was asking me who I was. I answered and in a strange and wonderful turn of events we realized we are relatives! She's from my dad's side of the family - her husband is one of my cousins. My dad lost touch of most of his side years ago. I've been trying to find out more about his side of the family (mainly his mother's since we don't have anyone else now since his mother passed away when I was a little girl) but his side has been sort of a mystery, too! Well I knew about them through photos and stories but that isn't the same as actually knowing them! Just a few days later after we've been talking she asked if we'd like to go out to lunch this weekend. I'm able to do a breakfast time since I have plans that evening so that's what we planned on. It'll be a public place, in the middle of where we both live. Luckily Mike is able to go but my parents are not this time around. But this spring we are planning on having a family reunion. This has been some nice and refreshing news I wanted to share with you all.

Today at work as I was going through and doing the last of my work for the day I somehow started a conversation with a coworker I wasn't ready for or expected in the least. She's been a family friend, knowing more of my siblings from my mom and dad's first marriage. They are older than me. And we got to talking about my siblings, to which she told me she was good friends with my half brother Donnie. Her, her husband (boyfriend at the time I assume?) and a few others spent a good amount of time together.

This is important to me since I know very little about my siblings who have passed away. I have lost two before I was born and two when I was younger. Donnie was one who was always sort of a mystery to me. So as she was talking about him, my heart felt excited. She told me that one of the last funny memories of him was at a Halloween party they all went to. Donnie dressed up as a girl, wearing a rather short skirt and showing off a bit much. This made me laugh and happy since I never heard much of him, let alone a funny memory. In my mind I gave them all personalities of their own to sometimes help when I miss them.

She went on to say that she has some photos of him and their friends together but they are at her ex-husbands house. Sometime in the near future she will bring them in and show me. I actually don't know if I have seen many photos of him as an adult. He passed away when he was young (she said 19, but I think a-little older than that). I'm hoping I can see these photos someday. She mentioned how friends of Donnie and Davie (the other brother of mine who passed away) got tattoos of their initials or names. And that would be a cool discovery as well. To know so many loved and cared for him besides my family is a comforting thought.
