A day early than I originally said I was going to post this! I hate to say I have favorites, so many of the comics I read are dear to me in different ways, but something about Simply Sarah has always stood out to me. And I hate to admit it, but I want to be honest with these reviews, this is one of my absolute favorites.

First off we start with Sarah, who is 15. I don't want to give away spoilers because I think it is important for you to learn them on your own - but the first page says it all! Those around her question her sexuality. And not in a good way! Because she isn't with a boyfriend at this young age they assume thoughts that are honestly none of their business. I don't want to make these reviews about me - but I want to add that I had this exact same situation happen to me about this age. And it hurt and it made me be ashamed of my feelings and thoughts. In just this one page, from my personal experience with my family all those years ago - this comic called to me and reminded me I'm not alone. When an author can do that, it is a powerful and intimate feeling for the reader.

I'm not done with this series yet - I almost don't want to finish it because I don't want the story to end. But so far it has been such a wild ride to put it simply! After reading hundred's of pages and seeing Sarah grow from teenager to young adult, we learn so much more about her as she learns about herself. She has the normal hardships that teens get - one that stands out is a bully who is an absolute terroir, her parents and others knowing about her sexuality, crushes, jealously, un-wanted attention, new friendships, then we move on to her going to college, getting a job, moving out on her own for the first time. All the while we are with Sarah for the ups and downs and Sky Angel does a fantastic job. She has her friend Emma do the coloring and both work very well together! One of my personal favorites are the styles of clothes and fashion all of the characters have.

Now where I am in the story we've had the joys of a trans character who is one of my favorites. It's refreshing to learn of them and their struggles. I feel this is still a topic that isn't talked about enough in today's day and age. So many of her characters grow on you and you get a new perspective on their lives. They have their own ups and downs and it just reminds you that a story can be about those around the main character just as much as the main character themselves. At times there are tender moments, humor, suspense, action and like any good drama - well, drama. But it just keeps improving as the story goes on. Also there has been some mystery revolving around an old curse and a gypsy that Sarah is determined to solve. That was an unexpected turn, but I like it.

If you like a good realistic story with a likeable female lead in unexpected situations I think you should give this series a try. The characters, storyline and art are just a few reasons you should try it! It's all completed. But I'm sure you will find your own reasons, too!
