This morning while I was doing odds and ends around my house while also taking little cat naps (I'm back to being a bit sick again. This time with a sore throat that now is gone but has turned into a head cold) and snacking I thought that it might be nice to write about food for once. And who knows, maybe I will write about it more than once since these things seem to change from time to time. I guess every seven years our taste buds change from what I've heard... I haven't read much into this.

Anyway, as I think I've written about before I have acid reflux. So that has impacted my diet over the years. Not a ton since I normally don't go for spicy or hot food anyway. Even before I was diagnosed. I don't take any medications for it, I just watch what I eat. And I try not to sleep soon after I eat. Also I try not to wear tight pants since I've noticed that makes my acid reflux worse.

One guilty pleasure I have is sweets. It's pretty bad at times. Like a week before I start my period is usually when my cravings come. I will want anything from cookies to brownies to cake to ice cream... and the list goes on. Lately due to stress and boredom I've been eating more sweets than I should be.

I have been trying to eat better when I can. Humus is one of my favorite choices for lunch while at work. I'll keep a pack of it - I like the original flavor but I do want to try new flavors someday - at work and bring in crackers to spread it on. And I've been trying to bring in and eat more fruits and vegetables, too.
Some of my favorite fruits are apples, bananas, all sorts of berries like strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and recently I learned I love kiwi. Some of my favorite veggies are green beans, peas, carrots, cucumbers and onions. Another healthy food I've been trying to add to my diet is spinach, I've found I like it more than lettuce.

I do like trying different kinds of foods occasionally but I am also a creature of habit. Even just a basic dish of meat and potatoes can please me. Some other random food facts about me I guess I'll throw in the pot: I love mushrooms and cheese. Together or separate! Depending on what kinds of course. I don't drink coffee but I enjoy a good cup of tea from time to time! I mostly like to drink water. I'll have a-little milk each morning or sometimes orange juice. And sometimes I do have pop, but I'm really trying to cut that out of my diet.

For now I think that is a good start. Maybe I'll write more on this topic again soon. Maybe I'll write about restaurants or some dishes... Just something different to think about and express. The older I get the more health conscious I have been becoming. Let me know your thoughts on food, I'm curious to hear them!

This may seem like a no-brainer, but one thing I think of from time to time is that I am grateful that I always have food. I've never been in a situation where I went hungry. It's horribly sad how many people around the world go hungry each day.
One of my pet peeves is wasting food due to this fact. Many people don't even hesitate when just throwing something out when in fact it could be saved for another meal or time or given to someone else. I'm not saying to just give your half eaten sandwich to the person nearest to you at a restaurant, but sometimes things can be handled differently. Speaking of going out to eat sometimes now I order off the appetizer menu because the size of the meals are so freaking huge and I know it won't be good to heat up again. So to avoid that, I just eat a meal I know I can finish there. I know I can't work in food service and this is one of the reasons why - so much food gets wasted each day... I think I'd have a broken heart each day at work and sink into a depression of sorts. When I went to Mexico years ago the meal sizes there were perfect...! Smaller plates and good portion control. It's no wonder we in America have so many overweight. I feel like our food severed in restaurants comes out in a huge platter. It doesn't feel normal when I am among it in some restaurants.
So this is just a food related grateful feeling - post so to speak.

This past Sunday my boyfriend and I went to Indiana for about two days to visit his father and to do a bit of sightseeing. It was a good trip overall. From the start of entering in the state we saw many signs for this candle shop and Jesus. And when I say many signs I mean maybe a dozen. One even having a shirtless cowboy on it for reasons I will never understand. We saw the candle shop from afar and it was shaped like a giant candle. But we did not stop. We came home a different way.
Visiting his father and father's wife was very nice. We had some delicious food and it was nice getting to know them better. Monday we walked for a bit downtown and had lunch at place called the garage which was a old, huge garage and it had at least a dozen different kinds of food. After that we went to walk a bit downtown Indianapolis. It was a-lot calmer than it would be during a weekend, so I liked that.
On the way home we decided to go to check out the Garfield trail which is 14 big Garfield statues in different areas in Grant county. The website we used was tricky because it didn't give us the city/town names. We ended up getting lost a few times but eventually got to them all, taking pictures and selfies. One thing I noticed was some of the Garfield's were in areas that were run down little towns which was sort of depressing.

We did play a bit of Pokemon go, but besides the recent mental pokemon event- not much was happening.
And lastly before we left Indiana we wanted to go to a bookstore, so we found one and it was a pleasant surprise! It used to be a house and now is a bookstore. I loved going there. Out on the front porch they had some old beat-up copies for 50 cents and inside was a good selection of books covering all sorts of topics, but mostly had sci-fi and fantasy. I found The Handmaids Tale for five dollars which I was happy to buy.

Overall Indiana being only a few hours away from home didn't feel all that different.
I am happy to be back home now. It feels good to be back in Ohio. A few days of exploring Cleveland and visiting with his family and then I'll be going home soon. I miss my Sapphire.
