This comic starts out with one of our main characters named Derec who meets a mysterious new boy named Sunyi. After helping Sunyi with an injury, the two become friends and go on to have an adventure of sorts.
I must say that one of my favorite things of this web comic is the beautiful and original artwork. It is digital but gives the impression (to me at least) of something similar to a painting. All of the textures and details give me that feeling. I probably sound like a broken record with how much I admire digital art - but you can do so much with it. And this is another example! Breathtaking pages and scenes to tell a story! It sets the mood just right, giving the story and the characters in it a warm and welcoming feeling. I like the cover pages to each chapter. They give a glimpse into this wonderful world, the characters or even a bucket of fish! A fun way to pause before entering into the next chapter.
Kakyssa's character designs are enjoyable - from the mystical, fantasy creatures to the humans. They all shine with their expressions what they bring into this story. Even the designs of the homes, buildings, villages - it feels pretty different to the other web comics I keep up with and that's another reason I am happy to dive into this story from time to time. There's an original feel here and it keeps getting better the deeper the story goes for these characters!
Another enjoyable point to bring up of "A tuff of Golden Grass" is the writing. It's nicely paced. The chapters aren't too long or complicated. There aren't a ton of characters and I feel like the cast is easy to remember and only adds to the story line in a positive. The dialog doesn't fill up the pages, just enough conversation which in this comic's case I think is important because the art also tells the story itself, too. Throughout in the author notes Kakyssa will list real world fauna and flora, which is always a fun little surprise.
Currently there are nine chapters! I'm working my way to being caught up again. There's plenty to explore and read in the meantime to get caught up on. I highly recommend checking out this comic. It's beautiful and a nice little adventure set in a far away land. Definitely a feel good comic.
