I'm happy I have found and read this on Comic Fury. I think I have a soft spot for dramas that intermingle romance, action, comedy, mystery and just day to day life.
So we start off in a high school setting in Queens. We are introduced to a few different characters who all have their usual but still enjoyable teenage characteristics, like not wanting to study for a big test for example *cough*Amelia!*cough*. Before we know it, things heat up with a fight! You know how it is, sometimes fights just happen in school. And with that we get a few more introductions! It's just the start to an exciting and suspenseful web comic I feel. It made me feel curious to all of them and want to know more, just by their brief few pages they were in.
It's pretty oblivious, but the artwork for "Queens" gives you this feeling the characters and scenes may just pop out at you. The black line work is fresh and makes everything stand out. Action scenes and reactions of the characters are done in such a way that it has a style all it's own. I really enjoyed how the pacing went on the pages, with the panels and at times some of the pauses to show their emotions to what is happening. A-lot goes down in "Queens", but good and bad with everyone. It feels almost like as you are reading it, you are watching it minute for minute.
I also have to add in all of the character's themselves. We have a group of friends (and a few who aren't friends) who are all so different but yet they stick by each other in an unexpected but supportive way. As you read, you'll learn their pasts and how they became friends. At first some of them I was cautious about like Marco, but he grew on me as the story went on and we learned more of him and why he is the way he is. Even Kat took me a little while to understand more. "Queens" covers some important topics, too. Later on sexuality comes into play, with a character being ashamed of it. And I understand this, because in my younger years I struggled, too. There is also an abusive home life for another character - which honestly I feel isn't covered much from what I have read here on Comic Fury, so I felt that stood out. I feel more people deal with this than we like to talk about, so I'm glad it is in this series. Also we can't forget the elephant in the room - Daniel and all of his inner demons. As the story goes on we learn more about his complicated and troubling past that is frankly quite scary. I couldn't help but feel for him and wonder what will happen with him. He, like all the others will grow on you.
If you are looking for something new to try out, it's a good series to binge and get caught up on. I am happy to say I'm glad I found it and got to experience all that "Queens" has to offer.
