For this week's review I choose Jason Deroga's series "Sneakers U-Force Fight for Earth!"! I found this comic from a mutual friend and I am so grateful I did. This comic has been a refreshing read and I am close to being caught up. It is currently on hiatus, but don't let that stop you from experiencing it yourself! In fact, this is a good time to check it out and get caught up!
Jason started "Sneakers U-Force" as part of a "Save Our eARTh Ship" Eco-Art Gallery show. The main theme of the comic faces environmental issues, but also there are other important topics that are discussed in the comic like friendship, finding yourself & purpose in the world and doing the right thing even if it is difficult. It has a very friendly and light hearted style to the characters, most of which are animals all the while they are facing realistic and serious issues. So it makes for a good combination. Our main character is Sneakers, who has these amazing super powered sneakers! He finds and makes new friends as he takes on different bad guys, one being an especially evil group who goes by "the shadow legion" and protects our beautiful planet earth.
Speaking of beautiful - the artwork for "Sneakers U-Force" is beyond beautiful. The time and effort put into this comic, with each page and each panel is wonderfully done. Jason works in digital and traditionally media and shines with both. His use of colored pencils, water colors, markers are all such a joy to witness! Not only are you reading a nicely written story, but you are getting to enjoy a fine work of art in the process. The action scenes were very impressive to me, as you are witnessing a fight from all sorts of fun angles and view points. It can be quite a wild ride. All of the character designs are creative and original. I think my favorite being Maire, a mouse character. And I can't forget to mention the covers of each chapter - they all have such a professional feel to them! It's amazing how they stand out, each one impactful in it's own way which made me all the more excited to start reading.
So give "Sneakers U-Force" a try! I know I am happy I did! It'll get you thinking about the animals who live amongst us and our planet in a new light as well as have you enjoying a new comic series.
