For this weeks review I hope you guys are ready to get weird! Here in The Amazing Chris Godbey's web comic we go into the lives of three unique teenagers who are students at a school for mad scientists! They are all special and add their own to the plot, as each chapter they seem to be going through something, supporting each other or just on an adventure of sorts. I have to be honest, while reading this I found myself drawn to Liz the best since she reminded me of myself in certain situations. But Phil and George are also quite entering to read and learn about. They all have their strong points and bring something fresh to each chapter as you read along. It takes place in 2004, which also was nostalgic to me since that was the time I was in high school. But I feel it can be funny and pleasing for anyone who cares to try it out, regardless if when you went to/or if you are currently in high school.
I think one of my favorite parts of this comic are how the chapters read. They are simple and not long or complicated. I read them while on lunch breaks at work with time where I didn't feel rushed or strapped in some giant plot. It is an enjoyable read and the comedy and writing is pretty creative I must add. As you read it goes from traditionally drawn art to digital and it's a beautiful change. It's fun to see that change! The themes and situations our three main characters find themselves in go from typical high school related things like dances to school clubs. But all the while taking on a weird, strange twist that will sometimes leave you surprised at the end with how things turned out. His other side characters add nicely to the story, too. Chris Gobey's characters designs are crisp to look at. More realistic in a sense but still with a good, cartoon feel to them. It's a comfortable style.
Currently I am all caught up on this series and am looking forward to more when the next update happens! Like all my other reviews - and still more to come - I think you guys should check out "Weird in a can".
