If you like Alice in wonderland spin offs, give this one a try! If you like a classic story and giving it with a new and fresh twist, give this one a try! And if you like a mix between horror, fantasy as well as adventure, give this a try! I'm pleased I started reading this web comic for all of the above reasons. I feel that Cressidia makes this story work naturally so well on many different levels.
I also feel the need to point out before I get into it is that if this series isn't what you are looking for with a new Comic Fury read - please check out more of Cressidia's works. She works mostly with horror and romance, but as I skimmed over her CF profile that she has MANY different web comics, I feel something for everyone. Her list of creations is quite impressive and I plan on reading more in the future.
Alright - "Descent through wonderland"! We start the story off with a little introduction before the first chapter starts. The main character finds herself in not a very ideal situation with unfamiliar characters, dark inner thoughts, being surrounded by a sense of the unknown. It touches on some personal thoughts and inner doubts with their own faults. The pacing in-between the panels gives you the ability to process what is happening in a different sort of way. It pauses at just the right moments. I think I read most of this one on my phone and it reads very well both on the phone and from what I can tell now on my lab top.
One of my favorite things about this story is the artwork. You'll hear me admire digital art in most of these reviews I fear, but I love the mix from our main character to some of the background details like the roses, blood and shadows that really pop. The sound effects work nicely, too. To me, it impresses me since it both adds to the emotion of this story but also brings it all in, how a simple rose or a bed of roses as well as some falling rose petals can be both peaceful and haunting based on what is happening is a wonderful added effect. The character designs are beautiful and original. Somewhat still familiar with Alice and wonderland, but also going in a newer direction which feels appropriate to the source material. And as you read the story holds your attention, you aren't given dozen of characters where it would get easily confusing and I felt the story still stayed strong. The writing and dialogue felt strong. Currently I am all caught up and am looking forward to when the next update happens. I feel this is binge worthy. Give it a try!
