When I first started this web comic several months ago I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I knew it was a pretty popular one by the numbers on it's page, but I was curious to know what a comic that was titled cryptida could be all about. And what a comic it is - this is by far one of the most detailed and creative comics I've been keeping up with. With each chapter I am impressed by the writing, the character growth & development, the art, the use of cryptids (ones I knew about and new ones), the storyline and the way it keeps you interested more and more. We start it off with a new employee at a university who is now a part of the Department of Cryptozoology. And as we go along we end up in all sorts of places, situations, adventures and flashbacks!

There is one topic I would like to highlight that I feel Microrapter has taken some special time with, that being the relationships between the characters. As the reader, you get to experience some of these coworkers just getting to know each other - so some are basically strangers at first, but overtime they become close friends who have each other's backs in some of the worst situations! I don't want to share spoilers with these short & positive reviews, so I won't name names but we have another character who goes through this memory loss development in a new chapter of her life and it is pretty fascinating to say the least. Then we have some romantic relationships which are suspenseful all in their own way. Deep down I've always been a sucker for a good romance in a story and what we get on the side of "Cryptida" is engaging. Since it is such a long series, we have interactions that come and go that feel like they don't even miss a beat - which is impressive! Also we get the enjoyment to learn of backstories to very important characters (both characters from the past and flashbacks from present characters), we learn about Toy Co (which is a pretty important part to the series as a whole), some interesting villain's and there is even some further expiation on some side characters. And I can't forget to mention the comedy shared throughout the story. We get some funny moments when you weren't even expecting to have a laugh or a smile comes across your face.

I feel the art is all their own, set in a simple enough style but still very detailed and fun character designs. It has this sort of warm, bubbly feel, from their eyes to noses and mouths. I like how their facial expressions are, even the body language uses just enough expression to get the point across. The cryptids introduced are illustrated in this fun, original style. We also get to learn about these intersting cryptids as they come along, which has been insightful. And since this comic covers a good amount of characters - both older and younger, I have enjoyed how Microrapter put those little details into all of their creations - with their fashion, accessories, ect. Plus it's nice to see such a vast cast! With each chapter we get a fun, detailed cover page - sometimes with slight spoilers hidden within that after I've read the chapter I will go back and realize. That's been a joy in itself.

All sorts of adventures await you if you haven't read this intriguing series, I do recommend checking it out. There is quite a bit to read - it has been going strong for a few years now. I'm still some chapters behind but when I find the time to read it, it is worth the wait. So it will keep you busy, but in the best way possible. At times it almost feels like I am reading an action packed, mystery & cryptid of the week
adventure. I'm glad I still have a ways to go and there is plenty for me to still catch up on as this series just keeps getting better overtime.
