#44 McGrenivan's "Way out there!" review!
Aug. 6th, 2024 08:00 pmWith the webcomic's description as follows: "In 1983, my two best friends and I accidentally got our Algebra teacher fired. This is our TRUE story!!!" I didn't know what to expect... But I'm happy I started reading and got on the "way out there!" ship along with the other readers. This web comic has been nothing short of entertaining, humorous and creative. It truly is an original idea for a story!
One of the first things that caught my eye about "Way out there!" has been the art. It reminds me of a few different styles and tastes that go smoothly together as I read along. There are characters who are wicked dark, evil and it shows well with their designs. Then we get pure and innocent characters and their designs capture this wonderfully about them. McGrenivan's ability to create these characters shines brightly throughout. And the action scenes pop right out of the panels! From the movements to the fighting - it's another part of this web comic that makes it feel like it's in it's own world of talent. Throughout there are all sorts of fun and exciting sound effects that add to the excitement of it all. I can't forget to share how he's added in so many other cameos from well known Comic Fury comics perfectly. The way they fall right into place in the "Way out there!" world is fun to put it simply. Another favorite part of this series is how the story goes from the present to the past. During present times it's full of color but when we go back to the past it's black and white. Almost a lost and unknown place from the current, wild times of the story! And that added volumes to the depth to the feelings and experience of the cast, what they have been through and how they got to where they are now. From page one I found little hidden treasures from pop culture. Those were and still are fun to find as I've been flipping through pages to write this review. With each page the details glue you in and I caught myself at times admiring a page or two because of the art alone before I went on to the next page.
"Way out there!"'s writing gives the readers bits of everything from comedy to adventure to mysterious situations to some romance to drama. The pacing of the story was set right, not rushing into the next plot too quickly. With the other cameos it added to the story. With such a diverse cast of characters McGrevivan keeps up well with them all. The way they talk and their mannerisms made it easy and fun to remember who is who if I didn't see them in a bit. And with those characters and their differences in personality and beliefs it's entertaining in it's own way! You get adult figures who are the worst, students who are put in unbelievable situations, random and strange characters who both play important and side roles who all impact each other and the story nicely. It's an easy comic to read, all of the word bubbles are neat and are placed along the pages well with the art.
Another side note is how kind McGrevivan gives shutouts to other creators on Comic Fury, helping spread the word of their creations. So throughout this gem of a series we also get to hear about others.
I think those curious to read this Comic Fury adventure will find something they will enjoy about it, from the art to the actual story to the comedy to the adventure of it all - I highly recommend it! Check it out today!
