BMR has created such a detailed and engaging story with "Ashface's daughter". I feel it falls in-between the categories of popular and under-rated, if that makes sense. The readers who know it understand what an original web comic it is. But those who haven't read this series are missing out. If you haven't heard about it - I will give you my brief, positive review of why I think you should give it a try.
In this web comic we follow a young girl named Anna who is Ashface's daughter, a mysterious character we see in bits and pieces and slowly will learn more about as the story unfolds. Anna is mouthy, sarcastic, a quick learner and pretty brave - being put in some life threating situations and holding her own quite well for a girl her age. We also get a diverse group of other characters who all play an important role in some way or another. Some start out as bad guys, but are turning their lives around and other still remain bad (in secret!). Other characters are supporting characters but they still contribute to the story greatly. I feel that BMR did made up a cast of characters that come from vastly different lifestyles and seeing them interact together has been a treat. We have a well rounded group of characters who makeup the village where Anna lives in, it's called Pagat Or.
The art is all digital. It's beautiful to look at, being in a 3D style I haven't seen yet with a web comic. From the trees to the buildings to the character's outfits to the hairstyles we get all sorts of details. BMR did a wonderful job of catching the character's expressions and body language in such a way because of the unique 3D style - it gives you the feeling the characters are brought to life. If you are easily confused with who is on what page - what their name is - each page has the characters with their name and name listed at the end of it. That is very useful, since there is a large cast.
The variety of perspective is fun, too. There are some great action and fighting scenes where I felt like I was right there along with what was happening. As I read along and became ingulfed in this story, I felt like I was in this fantasy, medieval time period. It truly takes you somewhere else!
Also we get a-lot of added information from the author themselves. That is both interesting and helpful as some of what goes down in "Ashface's daughter" may not be understood by everyone who reads it. BMR tells about the process the art took (which by what I have learned about it - it is a process and at times can be quite difficult!), research that was done, explains about the character's powers and abilities for example. Some fun added bits of "Ashface's daughter " I enjoy are that each chapter starts with "The" in the the tile and also each chapter is 32 pages long. There is also a detailed page on all the races in the series! From different kinds of humans we also learn about Orcs, different kinds of elves, goblins, liches, werewolves, spider folks... the list goes on! It's impressive this world has so much to offer and I'm pleased with each new introduction of these creative characters. I am not quite caught up - I'm on chapter 18 and have been slowly catching up. Take some time and give yourself a break to enjoy this amazing web comic, I'm sure you'll be happy with the suggestion.
