I just want to get these done with since they have been lingering on and on it feels like. I wonder if anyone reads them... They are fun to think about and answer at least. Just a few more months left! https://jo.dreamwidth.org/2802730.html#cutid1

October

1 – International Day of Older Persons: David Bowie once said that ageing is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been. Do you agree?
I think there is some truth to that... To a point. But I feel like this question also can have some complicated answers, too.

2 – World Architecture Day: Are you a keen observer of architecture, or do you mostly notice it when you see architectural oddities, e.g. a particularly ugly building, or a very unusual house design — that sort of thing?
I don't think I'm too keen on architecture, but I do enjoy enough of it when I am around it. Going into cities and places with older buildings always is a nice change of pace. I come from a family of masons so I've always appreciated a good brick building.

3 – Virus Appreciation Day: OK, so it's been almost three years since Covid rocked the world. Is there ANYTHING you appreciate about that particular virus — well, maybe not the virus itself, but the impact it had on workplace arrangements, or social norms, etc.?
I feel like it taught us that nothing is 100% certain meaning we will always have new discoveries, new viruses, new cures, new breakthroughs, ect. We just have to support science and be open to learning about things and the proper way to handle such issues.

4 – Improve Your Office Day: Whether it's your home office or your at-the-office office, what changes would improve your office experience?
Maybe make it somewhere I felt more motivated to be at? I'm going to be moving my little office room soon down stairs to another room I have and maybe that'll help.

5 – Global James Bond Day: Are you a Bond fan (either books or films or both)? Who is your favourite Bond actor? Do you have a favourite Bond theme song?
I'm not a fan. I've seen some movies, but besides that I couldn't tell you much else.

6 – Mad Hatter Day: Mad Hatter Day celebrates the Mad Hatter, from Alice In Wonderland and is the perfect opportunity for you to bring out your daft side. Do you have a silly side? Is there anything or anyone who always manages to get you acting silly?
At times I think I can be silly, but it just depends. Mostly animals. Like dogs for example. When I'm playing with my parents dog Fynn or our dog Wiley I get silly.

7 – World Space Week: October 4-10 is World Space Week. How does the exploration of space benefit society? Do you think the money spent on space exploration could be better spent on the myriad problems here on Earth?
I think we should spend more money and time taking care of our own planet.

8 – International Podiatry Day: Do you try to reguarly take care of your feet, or do you tend to neglect them until something crops up -- dry, cracked heels, ingrown toenails, blisters, corns, etc.? Have you ever been to a podiatrist (or chiropodist depending on where you live)? Do you get pedicures regularly?
Yes, I am a frim believer in taking care of our feet! When I was a home health aide and an STNA I took care of so many bad feet due to so many issues. I have never been to a podiatrist. I haven't been to get a pedicure but maybe someday I will!

9 – Canadian Thanksgiving Day: Canadian Thanksgiving is associated with the European tradition of harvest festivals. Does your country celebrate the yearly harvest with a festival or other form of commemoration?
Yes, I live in America and I celebrate it with friends and family when I see them. I feel like thanksgiving is a rushed holiday and people don't give it the time they should.

10 – Shift10 Day: SHIFT10 Day was created to encourage shoppers to shift 10% of their spending into their local economies to support local businesses, farmers' markets, and other alternatives to big box stores. Do you try to shop locally as much as possible or do the ease and convenience of big box stores and online juggernauts like Amazon win out more often than not?
Yes, I try to be more of a local shopper. It's important for so many reasons. I feel and fear online shopping will someday take over and that makes me sad.

11 – International Post Card Week: Did you ever trade or collect postcards? When was the last time you received one? When was the last time you sent a post card to someone?
I have a few postcards! I got them at the last stamp show I was at a few months ago -- in October! They were first day covers showing off certain kinds of stamps. I usually don't send or receive them but I do like them!

12 – World Sight Day: How good is your eyesight? When did you last have an eye exam? Would you ever consider lasik surgery to improve your vision?
My eyesight is not very good. I wear glasses and without them I have a hard time seeing far away. I went this past year. No, I don't think I would want that kind of surgery.

13 – Train Your Brain Day: Do you do any exercises aimed at (or claiming to) help keep your brain sharp and improve your memory?
I should look into doing more of these, like cross words and such.

14 – Dessert Day! Who doesn't love dessert? Is a dessert a regular part of your evening meal, or more of a special occasion sort of thing? Or do you mostly indulge in dessert when you eat out? Do you have a favourite dessert to make? Do you have a favourite dessert to order when eating out?
A guilty pleasure of mine is to make cookies or brownie's. But I love so many different kinds and I'm always up for trying a new kind of dessert.

15 – Mushroom Day: Do you like mushrooms? Do you have a favourite type of mushroom? In what dishes are you most likely to use mushrooms?
I'm trying to think of the names of the ones I've eaten. They were all good. So far I don't think I've had a mushroom I didn't like. I like them with a-lot of things - on pizza, in salads, even cooked or raw on the side of another dish. My grandfather knew how to identity and pick wild mushrooms.

16 – Liqueur Day: Amaretto! Grand Marnier! Kahlua! Creme de Menthe! A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit. Distillers flavor the spirit with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers, or nuts. They may have fallen out of favour due to the increasingly broad selection of spirits available in seasonal, fragrant, and often curious flavors (vodkas and rums in particular), but they haven't disappeared. Have you ever had a liqueur? Do you have a favourite?
I think I may have? But I can't recall.

17 – Mulligan Day: Commonly used in games such as golf, the term ‘mulligan’ derives from the 1920s when Canadian golfer David Mulligan made a mistake during a game and retook his shot. Since then, to ‘call a mulligan’ means the chance to try again. Is there anything in your life you'd like a second chance at?
That's a good question.... I'm not sure. I've been trying to live in the present and to not have any regrets. But I will think this one over some.

18 – International Legging Day: Do you wear leggings? If yes, do you wear them mostly when exercising, or do you wear them outside of the gym?
Yes! I love leggings and wear them often! For both!

19 – Free Speech Week: There is a lot of talk about the so-called "cancelling" of individuals who are known for espousing controversial views. Would a better way of framing it be "accountability" rather than "cancelling", with the emphasis being on the reality that free speech isn't consequence-free?
Yes, I think constant fact checking helps. I feel like a-lot of those controversial views can lead to hate and greater issues down the road. So trying to stop and bring to light the actual facts helps. Also some sort of accountability would help.

20 – Information Overload Day: We've all likely suffered from this at some point in time, if not almost daily. What do you do to limit the flow of information coming to you? Do you put your phone on "Do Not Disturb"? Log out of your email client? Avoid social media? Read a book or go for a walk instead of watching the news?
This is a great question! I mostly ignore my phone when I'm home and just limit what I watch and when I watch the news. But as of lately I have turned off most all news because it has been stressing me out too much. I do take social media breaks, too. Those are needed.

21 – International Walk to School Month: Did you walk to school as a child? Are parents today too over-protective to let their children walk to school?
Yes, I would walk to school as a kid when the weather was nice. We lived close enough we could do that or ride the bus. No, I think parents should be protective with their little ones. There are a good amount of cameras out there but at the same time I feel you can never be too careful.

22 – Colour Day: National Colour Day focuses on the impact colour has on each of us. Beyond having a favourite colour, are there colours that evoke specific feelings or memories in you? Colours you avoid or dislike because they remind you of something you'd rather forget, or give off "bad vibes"? Is there a colour that immediately brightens your mood, or calms you? Do you decorate your home with lots of bright colours? How important is colour in your life?
Yes, I feel like colors are very important. I feel like they can help us shape our feelings and emotions. They can express how we are feeling, too. Usually yellow brightens my mood - which is why it is my favorite color. And usually blues or greens calm me. I try to have some bright colors around but I also like to have some clamer, more down to earth colors around, too.

23 – iPod Day: Have you ever owned an iPod (or other portable media player)? Do you remember those first songs? Do you still listen to them? What have you become in the days that have past, and do you smile with nostalgia or cringe with embarrassment as you remember your favorites from ages gone by?
I used to have a portable c-d player and then I had a mp3 player. Yes, I do remember those songs. I feel a bit of both emotions when I listen to some of my older musical tastes. I still listen to a-lot of that music.

24 – United Nations Day: Is the UN still an important international player? Do you think the UN Security Council membership should be expanded?
I do think they are an important international player. I think expanding it would help. And I also wish they would hurry up and let Ukraine join.

25 – International Artist Day: do you have any art in your home -- paintings, sculptures, etc.? Do you ever visit art galleries? Do you dabble in any type of art yourself?
Yes, I have a painting I've done in almost every room of my house! And I love going to art museums. I think most of you know, but I like to draw, paint, use different traditional art tools. I need to get back into it again.

26 – Mincemeat Day: Have you ever tried mincemeat (pie, or tarts)? Do you like it? Do you have an old family mincemeat recipe that gets dragged out in time for the holidays season?
Yes, I love pies! I think my favorites are apple pie and pumpkin pie.

27 – Cranky Co-Workers Day: Do you have (or did you have if no longer working) any chronically cranky co-workers? Or maybe you were the cranky co-worker? When was the last thing you let yourself be cranky, and to voice your thoughts about something that annoyed you?
Yes, I feel like I currently have some cranky coworkers. Yesterday at work we were venting about a few things. It happens from time to time.

28 – International Animation Day: What is your favourite animated film or TV series?
One piece is my favorite anime and two of my favorite animated movies are Spirited away and Howls moving castle.

29 – Internet Day and Cyber-security Awareness Month: Today is both national Internet day and Cyber-security Awareness Month. Are you, or do you try to be, fairly vigilant about how you use the internet, and keeping yourself safe online? Do you tend to use the same password across most sites? Have you ever suffered a malware infection?
I think I could probably be safer about it. Sadly I did get my discord account hacked into/spammed this past fall and that was a very unpleasant experience. I am guilty of using a-lot of the same passwords but I think I've been getting better at that.

30 – Haunted Refrigerator Night: Sometimes you forget about certain things that are in your fridge. And while you may have forgotten about them, they certainly haven't forgotten about you. Instead, they sit lurking in the back of the refrigerator waiting for you to delve into its darkest corners and unleash the disgusting rotten mess that lurks within those Tupperware sarcophagi. Is there anything lurking in the deepest recesses of your fridge that you're afraid to look at or deal with?
No, I don't think so. I actually got rid of a few things from my refrigerator this week and last.

31 – Magic Day: Have you ever seen magic performed live? Have you ever tried to learn a few tricks yourself?
Yes, I do recall going to a circus or two and seeing magic acts performed. No, I have not tried learning.

"Wizard business" is a certain kind of comic all in it's own category. As the title says, we are introduced into a world of wizards and what they do. It's pretty original in it's art style, it's mostly gag a day comics about Joe - a friendly and spontaneous wizard and his close circle of friends, at times it can touch on some more serious topics and it like so many wonderful and creative comics on comic fury - it has room to grow. It's started in 2022 and each group of comics are placed in folders/chapters according to year.

The art starts in black and white and as time goes while reading we get more beautiful color pages from thecount. The colors they use are toned down a bit and give off more of a down to earth feel but at times when it's needed there can be bursts of color and excitement! I've loved seeing the evolution in the short time "Wizard business" has been around when it comes to the art. The characters style I personally think is my favorite part of this comic. There's a certain vibe to the art, the emotions behind it and what is being portrayed shine. The characters themselves and their expressions are also quite enjoyable. thecount has created a cast just big enough to keep things from getting bored while at the same time of not making it difficult or complicated.

When it comes to the writing of this series we the readers get to experience Joe at his best and worst. Sometimes we gets a spell done and it works out just as he planed - other times we experience Joe having some difficulty but usually there is always a solution to the problem. He's the type of character that as I mentioned before is spontaneous and that's what keeps the comic going. We never know what Joe is in for next! His friends and sweet girlfriend are always around and just as much fun to read about. Claudia the clown is my personal favorite. She's Joe's girlfriend. There is also the fun and loveable cow dog that makes occasional appearances throughout the comic. Whoever can't love that beast... I don't know what to tell you!

I feel this is a comic that is worth checking out and giving a read. Just a feel good comic about a wizard, his life and those who he surrounds himself with!
