Besides my boyfriend's comics here on Comic Fury, I went a short bit without subscribing to anything. Chopythes' "Heritage" was the first one I started reading because it caught my eye and I'm glad I decided to read it. A detective fantasy web comic!
Two best friends named Samuel Qruint and Timothy Tell who are on pretty opposite sides of things. Each chapter goes through different periods for the characters and those connected to them. Sam is a mystery throughout what I've read so far but that makes it intriguing to find out more about their character and past. And Tim has depth to him, too. Some terribly heartbreaking things happen in this series. But also good as we explore the past and present. We get demons, mystery, shapeshifting, dark secrets, death, an ongoing search, magic, glimpses into the past, chance meetings and so much more with each chapter.
The art of "Heritage" is beautiful, in black and white with different textures. We do get some bits of this comic in color (for an interesting little flashback!) and when we do it is also beautiful. Giving off an effect of what a painting looks like with a softness and a certain texture to it. The character designs are fun and different. I like how they have a cartoony look to them, but are still realistic in their own way. With good facial expressions and body language, it's easy to tell when and what they may be going through. When there is action and fighting it is done with grace and a sense of style. As I read my way through there were dramatic pauses and parts of the story where just a single image showed us readers what happened and that spoke volumes to me. The emotion put into this comic is nicely done.
So if you are looking for something new and creative to check out you should give Chopythes' "Heritage" a try. I feel like it's pretty binge worthy, with 8 chapters/sections up!
